Getting Back to the Blog

As I sit before my laptop this evening, I realize that it’s simply not possible to write about every event, every thought, and every happening in your life. Instead, blogging is a never-ending process of choosing to share or articulate the more meaningful events, photos, thoughts and moments.

I initially started my blog as a personal journal to capture the adventures and changes Chris and I were experiencing when we first bought our property on Bowen.  The blog became a printed record of life when I began to turn each blog year into a book of memories, but it is also a digital record that can never be lost, stolen, or destroyed in a fire.

I’ve embraced a number of different hobbies over the years, but none of them have really given me the same satisfaction as posting on my blog – probably because it combines creative writing at times, and photography.   I love them both.    I don't have my blog out there on line or published, it is private, and it doesn't bother me that people who do look at it don't comment.  That's not what it's about for me.  It's my outlet.   Knowing I have my blog gives me the opportunity to  collect my thoughts, to wait for an event or a photo to come along that I can  capture and share. Like a ships log, its important to me to capture whats important at any given time.  Reading my blog book at the end of a year gives the sense of moving backward in time as you move forward in pages—the opposite of reading a book.

I have to say though, that when I bought my first iPhone and realized the instant satisfaction you get from the camera, well, my blogging slowed down, and I started sharing photos on Instagram.  I get so much satisfaction and enjoyment with Instagram.  But I miss the blogging.  Perhaps the long cold winter and wet spring have slowed me down; or perhaps health issues with both Chris and I; or perhaps having a puppy;  have all contributed to a slump in blogging.  Now that spring is here, I think it will change.  I'm more inspired.  And look - things are popping up in the old wildflower's garden!
