More Garage Sale Finds

I just love these 3 fish!!! I picked them up yesterday morning for a few $'s. I particularly love the coloring on them, and will try to find a home for them around the pond. I am not sure they will fit into the garden so the pond is the answer, but it will be a challenge since it isn't level around the pond.

Garden Update

 

Just a few pictures from today of the veggi garden, Chris of course sitting with his peas. Also a few pics of the surrounding areas. If you click to enlarge the collage you might spot the huckleberries hanging out.

Guess What's For Dinner

Beetroot and Romaine, fresh from our garden, translates to fresh caesar salad and boiled beets with butter and pepper. Yummy!

Garden Sheds

 

I snapped this photo about an hour ago..you can't tell but it is pouring rain and we are also having a thunderstorm. The lighting just looked too good not to try to capture. My wretched garden shed is now one of my favorite things to look at from the kitchen window. You can also see how Chris's vegetable garden (in the background)is coming along.

Muscovy Duck

 

I am very excited. I got home from work tonight and Chris told me there had been a very odd duck in the pond all afternoon. He had just come back from the store and said we should go see if it was still around. Well sure enough, the oddest duck I have ever seen was swimming at the ponds edge and eating little grasses and diving down to eat weeds. He was very cool!! I naturally went to get the camera. At first I thought he might be after the fish... but they were all swimming around him, and he was just interested in the pond weed. I spent some time on google and he is for sure a Muscovy Duck. These ducks are the only ducks that are not from the Mallard family. These are originally from South America and have been spreading north and have been found in Canada. There is a domesticated Moscovy, but they have a lot of white, or are all white or have brown as well. The wild male also has a crown.. which this one would raise when I got close. So, my conclusion is that it is not a domesticated one.. but rather a wild one. I only hope it doesn't decide to try to eventually dine on our goldfish. Chris wonders if these ducks are tender and flavourful and can't wait to find out. He is dreaming of duck a l'orange, and Jake no doubt is as well. I looked it up and they are often used for foi gras but roasted they are much less fattier than regular ducks. If you click on the collage there is one photo with a good head shot.

Here we have Chris in his new favourite outdoor spot, his fast growing vegetable garden; and yours truly in among my flower friends. Simplicity.

Giant Poppy

I have 2 of these poppy plants, but last year they didn't bloom, so I never got to see the flower. Both plants are loaded with blooms, but so far only 2 have opened up. They are just a perfect color of orange!

Laburnam - Golden Chain Flowers

The young laburnam tree I bought 2 months ago seems to like its spot and has taken root. I now have 27 blooms as you can see in these photos. I do love these trees.

Kitty Cat - Mr. Smoke

I just love this little guy's eyes. He loves the camera and always seems to pose for me. This was taken yesterday during a brief break in the rain, just out the back door. Rain which of course, does not deter this fellow from any of his outdoor activities.
