Snug Cove

 

I never get tired of living where I live. If I didn't live here, I would come here. This is Snug Cove, Bowen Island. If you are a boating person or an ocean person... why go anywhere else? These 2 shots are from the marina beach at Crippen Park looking East to Horseshoe Bay and the Sea to Sky Highway. Please click on the picture for a larger view.

Strawberries and raspberries fresh from the garden for desert, and a handful of cherry tomatoes before hand with salad. It is all just so yummy. Our strawberries this year have been never ending, but then, after all, they are suppose to be ever-bearing.

5km Run For The Ferry

 

Well I can honestly say I am proud of myself today! I had a goal and I achieved it. Many of you know that I used to jog in the old days.... maybe even up to about 3 years ago. But, then I developed bone spurs and had too much foot pain to do anything but get out of shape and pudgy. Well my surgery at Christmas to remove the bone spurs was a success and in May of this year I was back to the gym. On July 15th I set a goal that by the end of August I would run from my place to the Cove which is about 8 or 9 km. In the meantime, my neighbor Ily and I decide we would sign up for the 5km/10km annual race on Bowen called Run For The Ferry. Ily has really been able to motivate me! She hasn't been a runner though, so we only started to train for our run the first week of August, starting with about a 1.5km run.. we ran twice a week, with our last practice run just 2 days ago. Today was the big day and we finished the 5km challenge in 31 minutes and 15 seconds. We ROCK!!!!! Now my real goal to run to the Cove still has to happen... and it will!!!

Globe Thistle

 

I am so happy with my Globe Thistle this year! I bought a couple of tiny plants in 2008 and they did nothing, and last year (2009) they grew, but there were no flowers. This year I seem to have 4 plants that are full of these beautiful blue blooms and the bees absolutely love them. I can't believe how very very tall they are. In some ways they resemble a flowering thistle, in that it is burr-shaped, but the flowers are a metalic blue instead of mauve/purple. Love them and love these bees. 1st Harvest of Runner Beans

 

Chris picked a huge pot of runner beans yesterday and shredded them to make "English" style beans. I blanched and packaged them for freezing, we got 8 bags for the freezer and kept 2 meals worth in the fridge. There are still heaps of beans on the stalks waiting to get a bit bigger and land in the freezer. They are so sweet!!!!!

Froggie Went a Courtin' He Did Say.... Ah uh!

We seem to have quite a number of these cute little tree frogs around this year. At least I think they are tree frogs. This little guy was outside the kitchen window on the screen above one of my window boxes. I am going to read more about frogs and what attracts them to your garden and pond.
