I've always loved wildflowers. Dolly Parton's song called "Wildflowers", has a line that goes like this - ..WILD FLOWERS DON'T CARE WHERE THEY GROW... (I have a link to the song on this blog - so have a listen). I've always thought of myself as a wild flower; I'll put my roots anywhere. This blog is mostly about my "wild" garden, our pond, the birds and insects that visit, it`s about our animals, and our home projects.

Pesto with a Twist
Basil is not a herb I have success growing. For reasons unknown, it is rare for me to manage to keep it alive long enough to do anything significant with it. This year, my sister suggested keeping the little pots inside on the kitchen window. It worked - my 2 basil plants thrived. Then I killed them and turned them into pesto. Found a Jamie Oliver recipe but I didn't have any pine-nuts so I used hemp hearts instead. Just as good. I love pesto. Storing it in the ice cube trays makes it easy to use a bit at a time.
